Queer Yoga and Wellbeing
Many people within our LGBTQ+ community really struggle to feel at home in public classes for a multitude of reasons. Anything from gender specific instructions, past experiences of changing areas, toilet facilities, appropriate clothing choices to inappropriate use of language can be reasons stopping us from stepping through the door.
You will be welcomed into our safe and inclusive space to practice Yoga with like minded individuals. The event is hosted by Yoga and Wellbeing teachers from the local LGBT community. Daniel Groom Yoga Therapist and Co Owner of Anahata Yoga Centre, Keira May Yoga Teacher and Catherine Weir Southend Pride and manager at MIND Mental Health Charity.
All we ask is you respect the safe space we have created for those you are sharing it with.
What Should You expect?
Each session will last for 90 minutes in total, with 60 minutes of gentle movement and breathing which will be accessible to anyone as the practice can be done on a chair or on a mat. This is followed by 10 minutes of led reflection and 20 minutes to share experiences, laugh and commune with one another.
There is no experience needed in yoga, no requirements to be fit or to be able to touch your toes. There is definitely no upward age limit (16 year-olds and under should be accompanied by an appropriate adult). Should you have any medical conditions or illnesses please let the person running the session know.
Sessions run from 11:00am to 12.30pm.
